Work starts on Pozzoni Architects-designed housing scheme
Planning permission has been granted for a new sheltered housing development in James Street, Northwich.
Owned and run by Making Space, with Helena Partnerships as developing agent, the site will contain 14 sheltered apartments, 10 of which are one-bedroom, one-person apartments; three of which are two-bedroom, two-person apartments; and one which is a two-bedroom wheelchair-accessible apartment. All create a safe and secure environment in which vulnerable people are able to live independently with the required support.
The development will replace an unused workshop currently on the site.
The new building, designed by Pozzoni Architects, encompasses the specific requirements of the clients and draws from experience of similar built projects.
The apartments have been laid out to make the most of the natural daylight and to connect with the courtyard. There is a single entrance into the scheme through the entrance lobby with communal and staff facilities either side. The entrance is clearly visible from James Street and is highlighted by an entrance canopy and a change in material.
It is intended that the scheme will achieve Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3. A fabric first approach has been employed meaning the building will be well-insulated and the heating system very efficient.
Works are programmed to start on site later this year.
